This handy guide will clearly explain how long you should keep your important documents for, so you can clear your home &#8211; and your mind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How long to keep\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tax records &#8211; These should be kept for at least\u00a0<\/span><b>five years,\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as HMRC are authorised to audit you for unpaid tax or under-declared income.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bank statements &#8211; Despite receiving bank statements relatively regularly, hold on to these for at least\u00a0<\/span><b>one year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as you may need to refer \u00a0back to past purchases.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Insurance documents &#8211; These will depend on the type of insurance you have taken out.
